A business growing in size (turnover or number of employees) becomes subject to additional regulation.  Key areas where you need to keep up to date with legislation include:

Certain types of business have to be licensed: check with Bristol City Council.   

The business support agencies listed on the right give timely information on new business legislation in their newsletters.  See the Events Diary for forthcoming networking events covering topical issues.  
 
Also, be aware that when new laws come into force then new scams arise to take advantage of people's lack of awareness.  Bristol City Council's Trading Standards Department have prepared an information sheet on common Business Scams.  Also, the Financial Services Authority has updated its information about the various scams currently targeting small businesses.  If ever in doubt, check with Trading Standards, your Trade Association or Business West.
