Working from Home

Many small businesses start up working from home.  Although this may be a cheaper option than leasing commercial space, there are some considerations to take into account:

  • How will this affect your home life?
  • Will you be able to ‘switch off’ at the end of the day?
  • Do you have enough space at home?
The startups.co.uk website provides a useful article looking at the pros and cons of working from home and asks have you the right personality?

In some cases, you may require planning permission to run a business from a residential property.  You will find this Planning Guidance from the government Office of the Deputy Prime Minister useful.  If you are still unsure, or would like to discuss a particular situation contact Bristol City Council Planning Services for help.
