Harbourside
The 66-acre Harbourside area is one of Bristol’s showpiece development projects, with an unrivalled waterside location in the heart of the city and excellent links with the rest of the city centre. At-Bristol forms the core of the new leisure quarter on Harbourside and is a catalyst for further investment in the surrounding area.
The £240 million regeneration of Canon's Marsh has moved forward with the granting of detailed planning permission for the residential, office and leisure elements of the scheme, which includes: a series of restaurants and cafes along attractive public spaces; routes to bring people down to the waterfront; and a new harbour inlet for visiting boats with views of the SS Great Britain. Construction started on this project in March 2004 and the distinctive new waterfront quarter created in the city centre, with its mix of uses, will contribute to a sustainable development that can be enjoyed by residents, workers and visitors alike.
Harbourside is undergoing a £15 million 'cultural renaissance' that will firmly establish it as one of Europe's leading quarters for the arts and Creative Industries. Investment is helping to secure the long-term future of Arnolfini and Watershed, two of the UK's most exciting and successful arts centres. Investment is also being made to transform Colston Hall, Bristol's largest concert venue located just north of Harbourside. New learning and recording facilities, bars and restaurants, and meeting and conference space will be created as part of phase one of the programme, due to be completed in 2007 and estimated to cost £18 million.
