Selection Process

After advertising your vacant post you should start to receive applications in the format you have requested.  Using your job description and person specification score each applicant on the basis of the information they have provided.  This should highlight candidates for interview.

Interviewing

It is suggested that you contact the top five candidates for interview.  It is advisable to have more that one person on the interviewing panel not only for security reasons, but it is always useful to ask the opinions of others.  Interviewing is a skill - you need to ask questions that relate to the vacant position, allowing the candidate to demonstrate how they meet your requirements drawing on their previous experience.  It also gives you a chance to check the accuracy of information on the application form or in the cv.

To ensure you run an effective interview consider a course in interviewing skills.  Learndirect offer a course in Interviewing Skills.  The course outline can be found in the training section of this site.
