Equalities and Inclusion
All businesses and individuals should strive to eliminate disadvantage, oppression and discrimination that unfortunately exists in society. They should aim to be fair, reasonable and just. Not only this, but there is a legislative requirement to do so.
Anti-discrimination legislation that makes it illegal for businesses to discriminate relate to:
- Age Equality - Acas has published a guide to help employers make the most of skills offered by older workers. Age discrimination is to be outlawed under laws scheduled for implementation on 1 October 2006.
- Disability Equality

- Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Equality
- Race Equality
- Religious Equality
- Transgender Equality

Deaf Awareness training
The RNID (Royal National Institute for the Deaf) has developed a series of awareness courses to help small businesses understand their obligations to people with hearing difficulties under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA). The training is free (until November 2005) to firms with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than £11.2 million. Contact the RNID by email or 'phone 0207 296 8060.
