Cuddledry go Worldwide after turning down The Dragons

With the latest series of Dragons’ Den hitting our screens this weekend, mums Helen Wooldridge and Polly Marsh are reminded of just how far they have come in the 6 years since they appeared on the hit TV show Dragons’ Den. When the two mums shocked the dragons back in 2007 by rejecting all offers of investment for their ingenious Cuddledry Apron Towel and deciding to go it alone, they had no idea that they would go on to be a worldwide success!

Cuddledry designers, Helen Wooldridge and Polly Marsh, made a big impression on the Dragons back in 2007 when they pitched the idea for their simple yet practical Cuddledry Apron Towel.

The two mums were inspired to invent the Cuddledry after watching their husbands struggle with their babies at bath time. Any parent who has struggled to lift a slippery baby from the bath and into a small towel will appreciate just what a juggling act it can be! This was how the idea for the Cuddledry was born. “We asked hundreds of parents and found that mums and dads everywhere battle with baby towels held awkwardly under their chin or in their teeth or are forced to put crying babies onto towels on cold bathroom floors all to get over the need for an extra hand to hold the towel at bath time,” explains Polly Marsh, one of Cuddledry’s creators. “It is of course impossible to safely lift a baby without two hands, but you also somehow have to hold a towel and wrap them in it!”

After appearing on the show, Helen and Polly were inundated with investors and suppliers interested in their product. The entrepreneurial duo secured private investment and the business has expanded beyond all expectations. By reinvesting the profits and building the company little by little they have grown their idea from a kitchen-table business into a multinational brand in just 6 years, whilst working around the needs of three young children.

The Cuddledry range is now sold in over 30 countries and has recently launched in the Middle East and South Africa with major new distribution partners. With these new partnerships in place and others in the pipeline, plus sales growing in the US and elsewhere, Cuddledry is expecting further dramatic international sales growth this year.

Cuddledry’s UK sales figures are projected to increase by 30%-40% in 2014-2015 and their International sales have more than doubled this year at over 214%.
